Just read the interesting post on hunting turkeys in the rain. How about high winds? What say you

I've watched the wind blow poofed up-strutting gobblers sideways and damn near head over heels in Oklahoma. When the love bug bites... It's on

Area I used to hunt was great in the wind. Lots of large rolling fields. Calling was not very productive. But knowing the out of the wind dips in the fields made spot and stalk very effective. I had numerous spots that I could stalk in on if the wind was high. Nearly all my birds were taken by spot and stalk actually.Seemed to see birds out and about in the open fields more in the wind than other times. Guessing maybe with the wind restricting their hearing they like the open areas where they can see better.

I tagged out this year on the windiest day of year. Calling was nearly impossible until you was almost in range but sure makes it easier to stalk

I've killed a pile of toms in high winds out in North TX. Sometimes it would blow so hard(40-60+ gust) you'd just about lose your balance when you topped a ridge. You can kill them anywhere, but we seem to have better luck in creek bottoms or valleys where the wind is cut to some extent. You can actually see them huddling on the down wind side of brush at times. Heat is another thing that will cause them to huddle in shade, I've seen that quite a bit.
